Your New Home: How to Settle into your New Home

Welcome to Your New Central Oregon Home: A Settling-In Guide

Disclaimer: While this blog post is focused on Central Oregon, you’ll find these tips useful no matter where you’re settling in—even beyond the nation!

Moving into a new home is always an exciting journey, and if you’re settling into Central Oregon, welcome! Here’s a handy guide to help you get comfortably settled in. Depending on your experience in moving, relocating, or purchasing real estate, some of these 7 tips may feel obvious, but you’d be suprised by how often some of these items are missed.  Let’s get started!

  • Setting Up Utilities and Services

Before you arrive, reach out to local providers for electricity, water, and internet to have everything ready to go. In Central Oregon, companies like your local electric co-op or Republic Trash Services can get you set up quickly if you contact them a little in advance. Pro Tip: If you haven’t ironed out who your new local service providers, your Realtor and Escrow Office can get that information for you.

  • Unpacking and Organizing Your Space

While packing for your move, label your boxes by room and unpack essentials first. If you need a bit of extra storage, there are local facilities to help. This makes settling in a lot more manageable and less rushed.  Worried about the stress of moving and unpacking?  Check out some local resources online for movers and taskers who need some extra cash.  This is also a great way to meet some locals!

  • Home Security and Safety

While Central Oregon is known by many as a very safe place to live, just like many other places across the country, having that extra layer of security can give you a bit more comfort as you get settled in. It’s all about feeling at home and at ease in your new environment.  Look into installing a Ring Doorbell or Nest security system. You can find many of these security options at any hardware store or online. Be sure to have internet connected before installing these systems, as most of them require internet to set up and maintain your service profiles.

  • Getting to Know Your Neighborhood

Take a little time to explore your new community and introduce yourself. If you’re in a more rural area where neighbors are a bit farther apart, local parks or community events are a great way to meet people. You would be suprised by how quickly a simple walk to allow you to cross paths with a new neighbor. You may also consider joining online neighborhood groups like Nextdoor or Facebook to help you connect with others nearby. Ask your Realtor to help you connect with others in the community. You’d be suprised by how many connections you can make with a little help from your real estate agent.

  • Personalizing Your Space

Add those little touches that make your house feel like home. (We’ll be sharing a blog post soon all about personalizing your space with a Central Oregon flair, so keep an eye out for that inspiration). There are so many great ways to design your home space; check local shops, online platforms, and other avenues to come up with creative ways to make your new home as comfortable as you’d prefer!
