Real Estate: Important Steps And Timeframes Before You Buy

A real estate agent giving home tour to a small family.

As people make the decision to buy a home, they begin to ask the age old questions — When should I start shopping for a home? While home shopping is an important step of the real estate process, it is important to know the early steps that lead to opening the door of your future home.

Regardless of how soon you envision this flawless process unfolding, there  are bound to be some speedbumps along the way –This is why I always suggest that people start sooner than later! The fact that you are reading this document gives testimony to the fact that you are more than capable of not only accomplishing this goal, but doing it correctly!

Below I have laid out some simple steps and timeframes that you should keep in mind when leading up to your shiny new real estate transaction. (see figure 1 below)

As you can see, while the usual real estate transactions last roughly 15-45 days, the process leading up to it can last much longer—usually 3-4 months! This is why, when I meet buyer clients, I push to begin organizing our timeframes and goals as soon as possible.

Now, as your realtor, I want to be honest with you: In a perfect world, we would prefer that all clients get the ball-rolling as soon as two months out. As you can see in the graphic, with a nice buffer of time in-between steps, you can move forward more methodically than your potential competition. This will ensure that you are not rushed into making any decisions that may hurt you financially or emotionally. Real estate transitions may be stressful, but procrastinating is the LAST thing you want, causing your stress in this exciting home shopping experience.

Are you a few months out of when you hope to move into your new home?  If so, then now is the time to contact your Realtor® and/or lender to begin organization of your successful home purchase. Good luck with your future shopping experience and feel free to send me an email if you have any further questions.  ( Mr.Chancejackson@gmail.com )
